NJ Clean Energy Bill Passes What Does That Mean For Your Business

On Thursday, April 12, 2018, Assembly and Senate voted on landmark legislation to provide the affordable clean energy that businesses want. This new NJ Clean Energy bill has passed and now requires that 50 percent of the state’s energy come from renewable sources like wind and solar by 2030. This now aligns with Governor Phil Murphy’s campaign promise, which is to get New Jersey on a path to 100 percent clean energy by 2050.

New Jersey businesses can now take action and get their buildings energy efficient with solar and/or wind. The cost of solar has dropped to 86% in the past 10 years making solar very obtainable to meet the new bills 50 percent renewable requirement.

Along with this bill and to encourage the continued expansion of solar, governments, utilities and other organizations offer solar tax breaks (see cash for solar) and financial incentives like the PSEG Solar Loan Program to make solar more accessible for today’s businesses in NJ.

Owners can now take better advantage of the state’s programs to deploy energy efficiency with renewable resources like lighting and other building controls combined with solar, energy management, and storage.

We applaud lawmakers for moving New Jersey’s clean energy economy forward.
